Windows have three integral parts: glass or glazing, edge spacers, and frame.
Each contributes to, or detracts from, a home's comfort level. Each conserves or wastes energy.
Dual-glazing (two panes) is standard in all windows offered by Coulee View Windows & Doors.
For increased energy-efficiency, we also offer both SolarBan60 Low Emissivity Glass (commonly referred to as Low E glass) and argon gas.
Low-E Glass reduces energy loss by as much as 30% to 50% by using a colourless, invisible coating of micro-thin metallic film that transmits high levels of light but reflects heat. Essentially, the coating reflects heat back toward its source. Thus, heat from the furnace stays inside the home during cold weather, resulting in greater comfort and lower energy costs. Low-E also blocks a portion of the ultraviolet light, which in turn reduces solar heat gain and the fading of fabrics and carpets in your home.
Argon is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, non-flammable inert gas. It is used to reduce heat loss in sealed units by slowing down convection in the air space. Argon's heat conductivity is lower than that of air and thus it is a better insulator. Argon is not an effective solar performer by itself and so it is best used in conjunction with Low-E insulated glass
Edge spacers that hold
the glazing layers apart
used to be made of aluminum which conducts heat rapidly.
Coulee View Windows & Doors offer windows that incorporate a flexible composite spacer that uses a
multi-layered system that results in improved condensation resistance, warmer edge of glass temperature,
a continuous
moisture vapour barrier, superior argon gas retention and an increased
total window R-value.
Frames make up 10 to 30 percent of the total window area. The frame material used can make a difference in the efficiency of the window and the energy cost to heat and or cool the home.
Wood windows possess excellent thermal qualities but are prone to weather deterioration and require painting at regular intervals.
Aluminum windows are very durable but offer little insulating value because they conduct energy rapidly.
Coulee View Windows & Doors
uses only PVC windows,
whose frames offer thermal characteristics similar to wood, are extremely durable
and require virtually
no maintenance.
